At Chai Calling, every cup of chai tells a story, one that starts in the tea gardens and ends in your hands. But before that perfect sip, tea goes through an intricate process that turns fresh leaves into the delicious drink we all love.
The journey begins in lush tea gardens, where fresh leaves are carefully plucked by hand. Within 24 hours, they are sent to a nearby factory, keeping the leaves fresh and full of flavor.
At the factory, the leaves are processed using one of two main methods , Orthodox or CTC.
1. Withering: Leaves are dried to reduce moisture.
2. Rolling: are twisted to release enzymes.
3. Oxidation: Leaves change color and develop flavor.
4. Drying: The final step to lock in flavor and reduce moisture.
All tea types start with the same leaves, it's the processing that makes them unique:
1. Green Tea: No oxidation, just light steaming or pan-drying for a fresh, light flavor.
2. Oolong Tea: Partially oxidized for a fruity, floral taste.
3. White Tea: Made from the youngest leaves with minimal processing for a subtle, sweet flavor.
Once the leaves are processed, they are packed and shipped to Chai Calling, where they become the heart of our chai. Whether you love strong black tea or light green tea, every cup is crafted with care and tradition.
Next time you enjoy a cup at Chai Calling, know you’re sipping on more than just tea, you’re tasting a journey from leaf to cup.
